Definitely a lot of triggers for this book, but a beautifully written story about the legacy of women and their strength.

I had a 5 star feeling about Weyward from the start. This beautiful cover is a perfect match for the story told inside.

Three stories of three women - spanning centuries & generations - are beautifully woven together to create such a powerful narrative. I loved the parallels in each of the Weyward women’s lives & how each of them displayed immense strength, resilience & independence.

An absolutely stellar debut novel that combines magical realism, historical fiction & mystery. This is one that I know stay with me! I definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for an impactful read, with feminine strength at the core.

I can’t wait to read her newest book, The Sirens, publishing in March 2025!

I loved the writing style and how the three characters' narratives were woven together. Each of the three women and their chapters had a distinctive voice. Alternating between each point of view made for an interesting story that I didn't want to put down. However, this book needs a lot of significant **content warnings** for graphic descriptions of: rape, domestic violence, abortion, and miscarriage. I almost didn't read it because of another review talking about how the book is all misery and violence against women. I would say that this is true as a dominant theme of the book  - but there is also more to it.

I really wanted to love this book, but it just wasn’t as enjoyable of a read as I hoped it would be. First, I really struggled to keep all the details straight across the three stories we were being told. I didn’t love how, especially in the first few chapters, we only got a couple of pages of each story at a time. It not only made the pacing feel very slow in some parts, but it also felt like every time I had adjusted to the character’s voice, I was whisked away and dropped into another story.

Second, I think this book was intended to be an inspiring story of strong feminist women. But it left me feeling pretty sad for these women who lived in solitude and seemed destined to face the same traumas generation after generation. I appreciate that this was a story of survival, and that each woman learned from those that came before her. But even though Kate had resolved to live a more full life, I still didn’t finish the book feeling hopeful for that future.
