A very sad, haunting book, beautifully written.

a beautiful little book about a horrifying chain of events. answers the question: once the damage is done, what does the day-to-day look like?

'He was the one which was closest to place and people, whose love of leftovers land, of house and orchard and garden, of sea and seashore,  fostered instinct and premonition. Yet when he searched his feelings there was nothing there to guide him, only confusion and contradiction.'

Morose Irish period drama. Didn’t enjoy the book that much, but it did generate good discussion in my book club.

I really don't know how I feel about this book. It was fine? Definitely sad. I'm not going to be jumping to read anything else by William Trevor.

Felt a little like Anne of Green Gables but lacking the local color and detail that could have made it so immersive.
