Oster does it again! I appreciate her data-driven approach. I feel like I am in a position to make informed decisions, though I will probably need to re-read as we get closer.
I was expecting better after Expecting Better, but hey-ho, it does a good job at showing clearly there's just really not much hard stats to go on after he pops out.
Pretty stale. For a book that says it will talk about the facts, it wasn't very informative. It mostly said it's too hard to tell if something is true or not
I always suggest taking Oster’s findings with a grain of salt, but I really appreciate her ethos of using information to make the best decision for your family, rather than some prescription. She’s an excellent writer. This book felt less complete than Expecting Better, which I really enjoyed and still reference. It really felt like the publishers wanted a sequel, so she slapped something together, but there was a lot of filler and actually missed some stuff about infancy care that I’m still wondering about. Worth picking up because it’s a breeze to read but don’t expect it to have all the answers
Freakonomics meets What to Expect. I liked how she broke down different studies, although I think she oversimplified some issues.
obviously read this other contemporary classic, although I like her backing up lots of claims with studies, I also think for some of the claims there are just not enough research (1-2 papers is often not sufficient) to make a clear judgement. I do have a sense that there's some contrarian streak in her writing, being provocative to be provocative, freewheeling to be freewheeling. So I'd take things with a grain of salt here.
