This was quite good, an excellent conclusion to the first arc of the story.

Another excellent book in an excellent series. However, the last part of this book seemed a bit...abrupt is probably the best word. For me, some of the events in the middle could have been less drawn out and more details put in for events at the end. That all being said - an excellent book.

3.5 stars, rounding up.
Sadly there were no flash back scenes to the prior lives of the main characters in this installment. Sniffle. I really love the whole reincarnation theme going on in this series- it's just something you don't see a lot of in high fantasy novels. (Or, at least, I haven't seen much of it.)
Fortunately, there is some great world building as our intrepid characters travel across the country of Bardek.

The Deverry Cycle series is divided into four "acts", of which Dragon Revenant is the last book in the first "act" – the Deverry Saga.

Although I still really enjoyed Dragon Revenant, I miss the complexity that is present when the author includes flashbacks to past lifetimes. There are so many parts of the story that are still unresolved, and with this marking the resolution of this part of the story I wonder if they'll ever get resolved. For example,
Spoilerwhat happened in Gwin's past lives to bind his Wyrd so strongly to Rhodry's
?

When I read this in my early twenties, it really bothered me that
SpoilerJill chooses to study the dweomer over being with Rhodry. Now that I'm nearing 30 and have more life experience, her choice makes a lot more sense to me. Love is a good thing, but sometimes it's not enough to be worth sacrificing your very identity, dreams, and goals for a relationship, particularly if you have to act in ways that are contrary to your true self in order to maintain the relationship
.

No dragon in the book! More tedious and stilted than James Fennimore Cooper.

And the story continues as Jill and Rhodry have to find each other again, with both having changed so much.
This fourth book again, expands the vista and the world and brings this first story ark to a conclusion. It is by no means an easy story to read, there is much trauma involved and many hard and difficult moments have to be lived through in order to make it to the end of this story.
Love this world with the second sight so much, the care for the natural world that shines through, and characters start to understand more of who they are and where they want to go.
Love it.
