This story and the concept has a lot of potential, unfortunately it really just wasn't given the time to thrive. The story overall felt very rushed and any obstacles in the story seemed like they were really easy for our characters to overcome. Like I said, the story has potential and I think if it was longer and more fleshed out, it would be significantly better.
This was a...decent...book. It was quick but flowed okay. I wish there was more about the mind powers but that really seemed to take a back seat. It had a very similar feel to Romanov which had magic but it barely made an appearance. There was a good pace at the beginning of Thief but once the real stuff started happening, it went by in a blur. There (apparently) was a war but we didn't see it. There was (apparently) a defeat of the evil villain but we didn't see it. There just seemed to be so much missing from the actual story.
That being said, I did enjoy it. I just feel like I was left wanting more. I wonder what this would have been like if it was stretched into a dulogy or a trilogy.

I’m doing a whole review of this on my YouTube, will post more when it’s uploaded!
The Memory Thief is a short and sweet YA fantasy read!
I'm torn because, on the one hand, I really loved that this was a standalone fantasy story that I could read in one afternoon. Everything got right to the point and there was a clear goal/arc that was attainable in that short amount of time. Every now and then I would mix up a character or two, and of course, the insta-love was predictable. But the author managed to fit in so much; every other chapter it felt like another shoe was dropping and there was another twist or discovery! So for what it was I really enjoyed it!
On the other hand, I absolutely loved the concept of memories as currencies and the various abilities that people had, and the thought of this being a fully fleshed out adult fantasy series is so tempting! The story felt so unique and the author did manage to put so much into so few pages; but thinking of what could be done with more time and more books, amazing!
I think readers should keep in mind that this is a standalone YA fantasy and go in with the expectations of it being fast-paced and covering a lot of ground, and just roll with it!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided to me through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to the author and publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book and I'm sorry for the delay in my reading/reviewing; it's been a bit of a year!

The blurb had me so interested but it was very average read. The premise of memories being so treasured is brilliant but it lacked that wow factor.
This was a ‘I’m doing chores and need something in the background’ kind of book. It was easy to listen to. But didn’t require full attention to know what was happening.

DNF - Honestly got terribly bored with the book.. I wasn't interested in continuing to see how it ended.
Felt like it was a buildup to nothing and while the premise was interesting and could have had a lot of potential but fell flat
