I LOVE U MURDERBOT!!!

It’s unfortunate, but this novella really didn’t connect with me. I felt my mind wandering regularly, and there were only a handful of moments where I felt intrigue. Can totally understand if most people love it; but not for me.

This short was very entertaining, giving action, and adventure. And it gave so much potential for a long great story but I digress, it was perfect as is. Yes, I wanted more but I’m satisfied with what I got and enjoyed the ride. Great read for sure

How can a story around a Murderbot be so wholesome?!

Unfortunately for All Systems Red, I've read significantly better "robot breaks programming" arcs that take the time and care to explore their character's self-actualization. I'm fully aware this is a series, however, Murderbot's thoughts and actions toward its human crew feel unearned for the reader, as it has already come to terms with disconnecting from its directives. There's plenty of room for its continued character arc, but none of that appears in this entry.

The perspective attempts a degree of emotional removal, common with characters who rely on facts and logic over emotional drive, but the narrative swings too far into passive voice that it's almost entirely tell over show. It also fails in the fact that Murderbot does frequently reflect on their place in the world from the beginning, so we don't get that emotional progression.

Wells does excel in the limited worldbuilding presented and how Murderbot experiences it. Always a fan of the casual queer rep. The plot was intriguing, but there's too much focus on her attempts at character building that the pacing felt rushed. On the fence about continuing this series, but it was a quick read.
