This actually might be my least favorite of the series.
To be fair, it's been several months since I've read the previous books, and I read those ones all in one go, so it's possible coming into this one without all the other books fresh in my mind played a part.
The writing was wonderful as always, but it felt like the book strayed a little too far into mystic land, at least for me. I've really enjoyed the supernatural elements in the previous books, but here it was a little bizarre and confusing, and I had a really hard time following what all was happening. The whole plot seemed very convoluted, and I found myself wishing there was more of the everyday life type details that filled the previous books in the series.
I have mixed feelings on the reference to current events. On the one hand, super relevant, and I actually really liked seeing fictional representations of the real world implications of our current political climate. On the other hand, it sort of threw me a little, because I couldn't remember any references to current events in earlier books, so I don't think I quite "placed" the books in time. Having a sudden reference in book #7 that screams THIS TAKES PLACE IN 2017 was just a little jarring, if that makes sense?
Anyway, I did finish the book feeling a little disappointed and underwhelmed, and a little nervous about future books, if Fox feels the need to keep ramping up the obscure supernatural plots in each go-round.

I finished this one and sort of felt confused and disgruntled. Ever since the baby started manifesting powers I've been a little less enchanted with this series. So to speak. I feel like Gideon and Lee had enough going on without everybody and their brother suddenly having powers or gifts, too. Still enjoyed revisiting these characters, but the larger story arc is sort of... eh.
Lovingly and beautifully written with many references to the events in the previous books (do read them in order!) and to local history/folklore. The great advantage of reading a series is that you can catch up with these characters and see the progress that has been made. Another reviewer mentioned the use of a particular plot device and I have to agree that I'm also not a huge fan of this. However, in a series like this, which features a clairvoyant and is filled with visions of all kinds, its use is perhaps not that surprising.
The novel is an excellent addition to one of my favourite series. It did feel a bit like a conclusion but if that impression turns out to be wrong, I will preorder any new releases in this series, it is THAT good!!

I adore these two men, and this was another wonderful addition to one of my favorite series. Both Lee and Gid are struggling with their own "demons." Gid is understanding that his promotion to CID isn't what he really wants in his heart of hearts. He was meant to be guardian of Dark. Lee's struggles are of the paranormal nature. He keeps seeing a mask threat and can't pin down who or what it could be. Things culminate around the Pride Parade in the area and the midsummer's solstice, as most things do in that area of Cornwall.
I have to say that I love how this book solidifies the roles everyone seems to have in the fabric of life. One of my growing favorites is Tamsyn, Lee and Gid's daughter. Her abilities continue to astound me, and I would love to see more books detailing these and how they grow.
I'm not sure if there will be another sequel in this series. The ending seems to tie up loose ends and right some paths that had wandered off the necessary trail. But yet, Lee's stated desire for his future employment lends me hope.

I absolutely loved this book. Harper Fox has such a gorgeous way of slowly unfolding a story, that it forces you to stop racing to get to the end and just enjoy the journey. I think I loved everything some people didn't like, including the tension between the Tyack-Frayne's and Gideon's new....er, ability? (I can't wait to see how *that* is going to get handled and how much influence Tamsyn will have in helping Lee and Gideon control it).
All in all, this was a bloody wonderful read.

I’m basically going to keep repeating myself when it comes to this series. Always, the current mystery du jour is not fully explained. My confusion is intermittently felt throughout and this latest installment was no different. I overall got the basics, but the fine details elude me.
However, what has never waned is the consistently front and center love between Lee and Gideon and how they navigate their complex lives, always putting the other before themselves. Of course, this is where this series shines the best which will keep me coming back for more!
Note to self - make a concerted effort to not wait so long to read the next book, lest my failing brain contribute more to the bewilderment.

I really liked seeing things from Lee’s perspective. Having both voices was a must for this tale. However the story itself was way out there and I’m not sure I understood all that went on. At least not the why of it. It also got a little heavy on politics in the world and in Britain at the time, though it definitely rooted the story in the near past. (I agreed with the message but it threw me out of the story)

Such an interesting an wonderful series. Despite the notion that Gideon and Lee are the guardians of Tamson, because she’s more than mortal, I really love their relationship with her. Another fun installment of myths, legends and two married men who can’t get enough of each other.
