A fitting conclusion to Agent Pendergast's dealings with his evil brother. Lots of action and twists. I look forward to his further adventures.

Another fantastic addition to the Pendergast series. I can say no more than it was a great read. The kind of book that makes you want to ignore everything else (work, food, sleep, pets) to keep reading.

Seriously. Read it.

I really enjoyed this one more than Fever Dream....being a NY'er I had a sense of presence in teh setting and found the characters more believable in this way! The ending was what I expected in a way but I am still confounded as to how someone could play a character for so long and not be detected... suspension of disbelief?!!??

A couple years back, I picked up a copy of this book from a local thrift store. The book sat on my shelf for roughly two years before I finally decided it was time to read it. Roughly a third of the way into this book I realized that I was missing some serious back story on the characters and the plot. After a little research, I found the first few books and dove headlong into this series. Now that I have finally restarted this book, and finished it, I not only have a sense of satisfaction but a much better understanding of what this story is about. While Relic and Reliquary are without a doubt the best part of this series, The Book of the Dead will always hold a special place in my heart for having introduced me to Pendergast and his friends.

The ending of this book is also the conclusion of the Diogenes trilogy; though it is not the end of Pendergast's adventures. The final two word of this book leave me with chills of dread and excitement all at once. I can't wait to begin the next chapter.

3.5 stars for character inconsistency and other reasons.

Prison break = cool.
Nora Kelly not knowing who Ammit is = dumb.
Diogenes disguises = fabulous.
D'Agosta and Hayward = YES MORE PLS
