I enjoyed this very much. I have recently discovered a love of reading “Proper Romance” stories and this was no exception. I’ve found a new author to add to my ever growing list!

Reminded me of Gaskel's North and South with a little bit of Cinderella thrown in.

Honestly, probably my least favorite book from this author. It’s cute enough. It just didn’t real pull me in at all.

Also… I listened to this on audiobook. At double speed it definitely sounded like one of the character names was a curse word, so that was exciting. And startling.

I loved this ☺️ The romance was a slow burn (and almost a kinda-sorta enemies to lovers), but it was one of the most adorable things I’ve ever read. I also appreciated the representation of ASD, which isn’t often shown within the genre.

I didn’t rate it five stars, however, because the ending was wrapped up a little too neatly. Seriously, it was practically boxed up and tied with a satin bow at the end. I would have preferred the conclusion to retain a little more realism.

Also, the aspect about language and “preserving the children’s words” was mentioned and pushed rather frequently and I found myself saying “okay, we get it …” more than once. BUT I still immediately picked the book back up after finishing and re-read all the interactions between Evangeline and Dermot

Dude Aunt Barton is the wooooorst. Audiobook narrator was amazing for doing her British accent, an Irish accent, and the moor accents. I wish there was a little bit more romance, but I loved their relationship because it felt more natural and not as insta-lovey (which I don’t mind that trope, but it wouldn’t have fit for this story). I enjoyed how much the story was about the school house, but I normally don’t willingly listen to school teacher fiction stories mostly because I need a break from school stuff. I probably wouldn’t have picked this book if I had read the blurb and known that. But once I got into the story I didn’t mind so much. It was a bit boring at the beginning, but once the romance picked up a little it was good haha.

Also I thought Dermot’s name was “Dammit” because that’s all the accent sounded like to me haha I had to look up the blurb to figure out his name lol!

Ashes on the Moor is a lovely story of strength, new beginnings, romance, and family that enchants readers with great characters as well as a strong storyline.

Evangeline was so likeable. It was so sad the situation that she and her sister found themselves in with her Aunt. Her Aunt was so mean spirited towards Evangeline. Although, Evangeline came from money, she did not put any "airs" about her. I like that she was not above it all to ask for help. This is where Dermot comes in. He was kind towards Evangeline. There is the romantic feelings with one another. They were sweet and real.

As the story progressed, Evangeline grew bolder. Dermot played a big part in helping to nurture and encourage Evangeline to fight for the things she holds dear. If you are looking for a great book to read, you have to check this book out. Additionally, other books from the Proper Romance line.
