Well written but I struggled as I had read Boukrev’s account first. I enjoyed the history of Everest sections but it felt like Krakauer was presenting his account as fact rather than memoir. Ultimately, the book seems to slightly miss the elephant in the room - why are we still allowing the commercialisation of Everest? I see no positives to it but Krakauer is unable to see his part in it

Heather's book. I really enjoyed it. Even though it was a disaster.

A very well researched, written, and emotive account of the 1996 disaster on Everest. Krakauer can write action, descriptions of physical pain, carnage, and challenges of Everest like no one else, while describing the beauty and sheer attraction mountaineers have to Everest in equal measure.

There is some personal bias that I think begins to filter through as the book approaches the peak of the disaster and the aftermath, but I think it's one of the least biased personal accounts of tragic events.

Very well written, gripping, and almost reads like fiction. It's hard to believe that this story is real sometimes, in the best possible way.

Ok so I probably won’t be climbing Everest (guy who is too scared to do that 5.5s at the school rock wall)
