If you like historical fiction this book is for you. The Children’s Blizzard introduced me to an historic weather event I’d never heard of before. At times this story was utterly heartbreaking. As a teacher (who lives on the prairies) the circumstances were horrifying and almost unimaginable. The novel was written in easy to understand language and flipped between multi-character perspectives. It would be interesting to read further about this terrible storm.

The title of this book is very misleading. If you’re looking for a book about the blizzard of 1888, this is not that book. If you want historical fiction about life on the prairie that took place around that event with small town and family drama, this might be for you. I got more information about the blizzard itself by googling and from Wikipedia. Overall, this book tried to do too many things and it didn’t work.
