Some great stories. Always was a bird guy and loved the amount of trash he talked and backed it up.

Any fan of the game should read this book. It needed to be written and it needed to be a collaborative work, which it was. It captures so well the heated rivalry, the legendary performances, and the deep respect between the two. It chronicles their earliest days, their near mythical heights, and their days in the front office. It's written without bias or prejudice, just a recounting of one of the greatest eras in basketball history. I loved every second.

Larry and Magic give their accounts of their rivalry and how they ultimately became friends. A good overview of both of their careers but not a whole lot of new info. I received a signed copy of this book by Larry Bird from the Pacers for renewing my season tickets back in 2010 when the Pacers were coming off a 32-50 record.

The mark of a good sports book is that you feel like playing the game when you put down the book. This passes that test.

I first got interested in basketball around the time of the Bird/Magic rivalry. This book took me back to that era! If it wasn't for Bird and Magic, basketball wouldn't be as great as it is right now.

Even casual fans and non-fans (of a certain age) will recognize the names Magic and Larry. For those of us who grew up watching the rivalry, MacMullan does a great job of mapping the backgrounds and careers of two of the biggest names and best players the NBA has ever seen. Don't expect much analysis or criticism. This is Magic and Larry's book, a small part of their legacies. You'll meet their coaches, teammates, and families, but be aware that this is first and foremost a book about these men, their legacies, their contributions to the game of basketball.

It's hard to believe that it's been over 20 years since they retired as players. All the more reason to appreciate the men who carried the NBA's fortunes and are still talked about and celebrated. There will never be another Bird and Johnson.

Lots of good information and background on the two stars, some of the sections are random and out of place, messes with the flow of the story b/w Bird and Magic
