Walking into books blindly is a pastime of mine. It certainly served me well this go around. I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to feel right up until the end. I wondered if I was reading a thriller, a historical fiction, or even a murder mystery. Maxwell shook it all up and sprinkled in a dab of WW11, love for literature, and strong sheep symbolism. I ended up with a cozy, slow burning story of tragic love, feminism, resilience, and back country legends. Downright comfy.

"No, facts are not necessary to tell any story at all, that is, as long as somewhere among all the embellishments, within the spaces—between the hair’s breadth—there might lurk one small and stalwart bit of Truth."

This was a good story, it didn't stir up much excitement for me but it was enjoyable to listen to.

This was a really pleasant read! I picked it up based on an Amazon First Reads suggestion, and I truly enjoyed it. It had me tearing up at some points, laughing at others, and cringing at a few. I absolutely adored Maude, and Ruth was enjoyable to read about as well. I’m glad I gave it a shot!

The book was entertaining but I really can’t get behind the ending. It left me speechless, and not in a good way.

Not the horror I expected... I wanted more horror and less paranormal... It was an okay read... it was 2.5.
