Great poetry, would have enjoyed it more if I was heart-broken.

4.5 stars. Very much a flapper book. I just finished Gilmore Girls for the 80th time and the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for the 3rd time, so I decided to try Dorothy Parker’s writing. The poems are contradictory, sharp, irreverent, and heartfelt; I truly loved reading her writings. I’ll definitely grab another work by her again.

i really enjoyed this collection, though i had trouble getting into it at the beginning. the sing song nature of the poems and their message may not be for everyone, but that does not make them more relatable. a couple of times i was really getting into the poem, only for it to end with a punchline which was expected, but a bit disappointing.
favorite poems:
the false friends, a very short song, light of love, wail, anecdote, the dramatists, the white lady, condolence, a portrait, unfortunate coincidence, verse reporting late arrival at a conclusion, now at liberty, résumé, daydreams, the veteran, folk tune, good speed, song of perfect propriety, one perfect rose, indian summer, finis, song of one of the girls, symptom recital, the burned chikd.
