As always, I'm not crying you're crying! this series is not in my 'typical' read wheelhouse but I love it through and through. While I didn't ugly cry as much as I did in They Both Die at the End I did ugly cry.

A wonderful book for some emotional whiplash - a doomed narrative as you know from the beginning one of the characters is going to die by the end BUT YOU STILL GET ATTACHED TO THEM AND CRY OVER IT 😭😭
a lovely prequel with lots of subtle nods to the original book - as well as the lovely invisible string through all the characters and connecting them in the  same day

I'll be honest, at first I gave this 4-4.5 stars. But then I couldn't stop thinking about it. Was it the emotion that I was experiencing that I wasn't expecting it to induce? Or, maybe, it was because I was expecting some emotions, that I was surprised just how much it impacted me? So alas, 5 stars.

The prequel is set in the same Death Cast universe as They Both Die at the End. Similarly, this book has multiple point of views in the best way. We even get a cameo of Mateo & Rufus (swoon). This story follows Orion & Valentino as death cast is first being introduced. Many are skeptical, unsure of if the end of times is upon them, aliens are invading or if this is just all an elaborate money grab. Names are called. Death inevitably happens. Beautifully, so does life. The writing is captivating, capturing you into the lives of these deep, meaningful characters and leaves you tearfully bittersweet.
