Got up early to do work, binge read this instead. I'm in tears.
I loved the first book when I first read it about two years ago, and this one was a great expansion to the world with Death-Cast. I ended the last book with lots of questions, and I was overjoyed to see that it had a prequel.
However, I will say that this felt like it was more-or-less following the same plot-line as the first book. And even the same plot line as [b:What If It's Us|36341204|What If It's Us (What If It's Us, #1)|Becky Albertalli|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1526557760l/36341204._SY75_.jpg|57912876]. Now, I do love this plot line, and it makes me want to go to New York, but it's beginning to wear down on me a bit. I won't say I dislike reading the same story over and over, but I do like some variety.

I forgot how touching and wonderful Adam Silvera's stories were after trying to read What If It's Us.
Anyways, this book was so heartfelt (...) and moving that I had to give it at least 5 stars. I honestly wish I could reread it again right now.
I just really like books that restore some of my faith in humanity, even if they are fictional.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with this book. The concept is great, but the book is boring. I’m not sure why it has no appeal to me.

This book was fine. It wasn't bad by any means, it just wasn't great. It felt a bit like a cash grab in a way. There were moments It felt like someone old was trying to be young and hip and it just fell flat. They story was good and the characters were entertaining. I felt more connection to the side characters tho. The love plot felt rushed, it had to be obviously. Adding in chapters from the OG characters hurt my heart, but it was a nice tie in. Overall, it was a good read and I would recommend it if you read the first one, but definitely not necessary.
