The premise of the book is quite interesting but I guess the novelty of the first installment was missing. That said, it was intriguing to catch glimpses of characters at earlier points in their lives while following the néw protagonists. The teenage angst grew a bit wearisome after a bit although I appreciated the passion and loyalty they exhibited.

I did not think a good prequel in this series would be possible, just because the first was so good. I am so glad I was wrong. This book is POETIC. The connections between the characters, the irony, the expectations, both met and shattered. 7/5. Definitely read the They Both Die at the End first though.

Y’all this was some good, sad shit. That’s what Silvera does best. Main complaint with this one was the pacing - it just dragged for a bit in the middle. But overall it was really good! Can’t wait to discuss this one in book club soon.
