I don't think I had any idea what missionaries actually did before I read this book. It gave me an insight into this world, but made it that much more baffling.

I really love epics like this and this novel was so masterfully written. Kinda perfectly checks all my interest boxes: american imperialism, colonialism, evangelical christianity... long but worth the read.
