I loved this book. The only reason I'm not rating it higher is because of the ending.
All of that build up and you're going to give me the 'I love you too' in the final moments of the book with no cute epilogue?! Rude.
. I could definitely see myself rereading this book.

i’m sorry, but i’m easy to please. second chance romance in a small town where both characters are forced to go through their own patterns of growth with an ending i did not expect to be so abrupt, but in a good way? that’s a win

I really enjoyed it because it felt like a real book and a real story. I thought the ending was too rushed but I think it's honestly just my taste. I still loved reading it and thought it was great.

Did this author really make a racist, stereotypical black character? In the year 2020? Why do non black authors do this when they write black characters? If you’re going to add a black character to your story to meet your diversity quota, please have the decency to do it right and respectfully. I’d rather have no representation in books than a goddamn caricature. I’m sick of it

Thank you to Netgalley for an e-copy of this in return for a review!

DNF - I was so excited for this book because it sounded right up my alley but I was having to force myself to get through it and I just wasn't having a fun time. The writing style was something I really enjoyed about it but as for the rest of the book, it just felt too similar to other adult f/f romances I've read recently and I just felt my interest slowly waning. It's a shame but I'll definitely be looking into some of Georgia Beer's other works.

I love a good second-chance romance and at the hands of Georgia Beers I had high expectations. And maybe that’s where the problem really stems from—my expectations. Because it’s not that this story was bad—it was very readable and I did enjoy it—it’s just that it failed to move me, I guess.

Charlie and Emma were childhood BFFs turned first loves. And like most high school romances, they grew apart when they went away to different colleges. And while they hadn’t yet broken up when Charlie meets Darcy, a successful business woman who takes an interest in Charlie and offers her a job in New York City, they were headed that way. Emma warns Charlie that Darcy just wants to sleep with her. But Charlie chases the opportunity and leaves Emma, and their small town behind.

The novel begins 5 years later. Charlie is forced to return home with her tail between her legs when she loses her job, her girlfriend, and her apartment at the same time. But home is also where Emma is and Emma doesn’t want much to do with Charlie.

Charlie’s return home—and all the drama around it—is really where this book lost me. I can’t blame Charlie for wanting to leave her small town or for losing touch with her friends from high school or for even not coming home for two years (the horror!). And I definitely don’t blame her for breaking up with Emma when their lives were going in different directions.

And then there was the weird subplot involving Emma’s father that Beers handled somewhat irresponsibly.

But even with all that, I did like the chemistry between Charlie and Emma, and I did like a lot of the supporting cast. I was rooting for their second chance. It just felt like Beers was phoning this one in.

An honest review thanks to NetGalley. I started this book awhile ago and put it back down after reading the prologue. I tired again today actually from the beginning and ended up loving it. Charlie for all of her past mistakes and not knowing what she wants was amazing. I loved every written line while she was baking her pies. The connection between Emma and Charlie was immediate and it was an amazing journey seeing them forgive each other and start to find themselves. This was a great read!

Beers is a notable writer in the lesbian romance genre and readers can usually expect a consistent and enjoyable story when one picks up her books -- believable characters, excellent writing, and interesting plots.

What started out as great read with an abundance of potential felt rushed towards the end with a mediocre end for the two main protagonist.. Side characters aren't as explored and their stories are left hanging with the responsibility of imagining their end left to the reader.

While there's a happily ever after for the two leads, much of it felt anti-climatic with no concrete or realistic idea as to how they will move forward with the realistic challenges ahead. I understand romance genres are often left to some suspension of belief, but this was above what is usually the norm for the genre.

Still, I'm thankful for the read and am grateful to Netgalley for the opportunity of an advance copy.

I'd give it 3.5 stars for being ok, not great, but enjoyable enough. With the writing and character interaction giving it an extra half star.
