Marion and Tom, two young sweethearts, meet Patrick, a beautiful and enigmatic artist, and their whole lives change.

This novel was devastating and tragically beautiful. It is told through diary entries from the past and present, unravelling a hidden secret that impacted the course of everyone's life.

My Policeman was written so fluidly and it was such an enjoyable read. I was sucked into the lives of our three friends and by the end of the novel I was heartbroken and disgusted. I finished the book a different person to when I started. I felt every emotion from happiness and sadness to anger and frustration.

I cried, a lot. The ending was beautiful and I spent days thinking about it. A story of love and lies, that will impact you to your very soul.

(Marion is literally the worst person and ruined everything for everyone in my opinion, no spoilers will be said, but she is a bitch.)

Did I read this so I could watch a Harry styles movie?? Yes. BUT IT ACTUALLY SLAPPED!! I love a dual time line and the same story told from 2 different perspectives. A complex and complicated love triangle

I watched the movie first, so I needed more in this book. Did it for me I’ve been in a reading slump since April and I feel so ready to read now and truly enjoyed the themes and love portrayed this book.

I wanted to rate this book higher and I wanted to like it more. I feel if it was not for it’s nature and it’s historical lens I would not have finished it.
While emotional and evocative I found the characters to be superficial and skirted around the real issues and complications of the time. It would have been great to have a perspective from Tom. I think that would have deepened my investment in the book and made it more evocative.
I enjoyed the closure that came from the end and the slight unresolved nature of the characters. I feel this is like real life… with many things left unsaid and regrets present when one experiences the death of those “close” to them.
The book is reflective but jumps a around a little. I would have enjoyed more historical context.
Overall I would recommend to Queer readers but caution them about high expectations.
