I didn’t expect to like this book—maybe that was part of my problem—but I read it because of my love for Dolly. The book touched on the state of women in country music today for about five seconds, but that was mostly a missed opportunity. Since this is James Patterson, the brand calls for a cheap thrill, predictable plot, loose ends, superficial romance, and undeveloped characters. The audiobook makes it much more enjoyable, though, because the voice cast is quite good.

A nice tale of a young woman making it to Nashville and finding some friends in the music business to help her start her career as a singer/song-writer. There are dark secrets in her past, only hinted at from the beginning, but haunting her new life. There is a bit of a sweet love story and the older woman as a mentor is a lovely touch.

More than pleasantly surprised by this read. I am glad that chose to do the audio version because have Dolly read in parts was a must! I am not sure the book would have landed as well as a read if I had not chosen the audiobook.

I couldn’t finish it. I got 60% through the book and gave up. Someone is chasing and beating up AnnieLee but no clue why. She’s obviously not hiding because she wants to be a star. Won’t ask for protection from powerful people that want to help. Wants to handle it her own, but where does she get her strength and determination- who knows - because there is no insight into these characters. Very surface character development. It’s like a bad Lifetime movie.
