I can’t get over how amazing this was. I can’t believe it took me so long to finally pick it up and read. It sat on my TBR pile for awhile and then one day I just kept staring at it and finally decided it was time to read it. Oh how happy that I did.
I’ve always loved historical fiction and World War Two based books as well. It’s my favorite time in history and I love that we see a side of the time period through a different lens. I loved all the different perspectives through this and how all the characters in the end interweave together.
It was such a vivid atmosphere that you just felt to immersed in the story. I’m so happy that this has been read because I absolutely loved it.

What an amazing book. One if the best I have read in years. Each chapter is like poetry. You love these characters, and really care about them.
This a fantastic book, I would recommend it. The chapters are nice and short, 2-4 pages, which made it hard to put down and my mantra became "just one more chapter". I enjoyed the layout with the chapters alternating the stories of the 2 main characters, with some minor characters stories throughout. The story begins in August 1944, where you first meet the characters and what they are doing, then it backtracks to 1932 or so and the characters and story develops. The story would hop back to August 1944 every so often before backtracking again.
I was so skeptical about this and figured it was unjustly praised. I was wrong. Loved this. The writing style is very unique, and the short, rapid chapters wouldn't let me put it down until the end. The reason I'm giving it four stars is that the ending feels really rushed, and while it is satisfying, I would have appreciated more time dedicated after the parallel timelines overlapped.
