Where have you come from and where are you going?

I loved this concept of interweaving lives of people through travel. I've always loved "people watching" at airports, curious about where they came from, where they were going, why they were going, etc. This book did a wonderful job of giving snapshot looks into these character's lives and giving the reader just enough information to tell a portion of their story.

Some of the plots were a little clunky, in my opinion, but overall I loved the effect and I think it makes one really think about what it means to be one of many; we're all trying to get somewhere.

Thank you to @scribnerbooks for a free copy of this summer’s TURBULENCE — a different sort of novel. This slim book flows from one character to another as they travel on... you guessed it, planes. With this structure, you really get little vignettes of each character’s life, usually during a particular turning point. I want to call it interconnected short stories but I also want to respect its choice to be called a novel. It’s a nice quick read, 3/5 stars for me.

SEA - HKG. Boken börjar och slutar på good old LGW.

A cleverly devised book, following the lives of people dashed together through accidents of global travel. Well-written, contemplative and a light afternoon read.

I think I like the idea of this book more than the execution. It's a quick read told over a dozen chapters, each focusing on a minor figure from the one before, who either has recently taken a flight or will be taking one soon. These character sketches are generally effective, but they're so short they feel more like snapshots than fully-fledged stories. It's a good reminder that everyone in our lives has depths of their own, and that we are connected in small ways we'll never know to people all over the globe. Yet it doesn't add up to much, in the end.
