The interesting structure of this book, a series of 12 interconnected stories about airline flights around the globe, kept me reading. There is turbulence in the air, and emotional turbulence in the lives of the passengers — illness, bankruptcy, domestic violence, and even death. The reader is left hanging at the end of the stories, but the thread is picked up in the next one. While these stories and characters are all connected, each character is essentially alone.

What she hated about even mild turbulence was the way it ended the illusion of security, the way that it made it impossible to pretend that she was somewhere safe.

I like the structure of the book and the way that the stories were told. It is very unique. The stories themselves are also very different from each other. Short and sweet.

I really enjoyed this. I loved how each story flowed into the next so effortlessly; each short but whole. There were some I wanted to be longer, of course, but that’s because I’m a greedy reader.

‘some things, perhaps, are not meant to be. some things are meant to be, some things are not meant to be.’
