I love a good re-telling! This is not my favorite of Dokey's books but definitely a great read. There is some sexuality hinted at with young brides to be killed after their wedding nights. Recommended for the older teen.

Unique storytelling style that wasn’t really my jam but did fit with the story. Definitely new tales to me. A different type of retelling than I’d read before.
This was a nice fun romance. It came from the fairy tale about a king whose heart is turned to stone because of a betrayal and once a month at full moon will wed a wife and the next day she will be killed. The storyteller's daughter volunteers to be his wife. I have heard the tale before and this really did not have any twists or turns that were unexpected but that was part of the charm of it. It was a super quick read. I finished in a couple of hours. Would recommend anyone who likes fairy tales retold.
Most of us know the story of Scheherazade and her thousand tales but what are lead up to it? The Storyteller's Daughter explores the life of Scheherazade before she became the doomed virgin bride of King Shahryar.
The ending was a little disappointing so I gave it 4.5 stars.

Wow. This book was so good. When I started it, I was like nope. Imma give this book two chapters and then I'm done. This is boring. But as it took off it got better and better, and I'm really glad there are 18 more. Very good short book.
A retelling of Sherazad. I picked it up expecting something else, but it was enjoyable. Some magic, mystery and romance, it's a very solid read for a young girl. I've never read the original, but this focused much more on Sherazad's story and her life than it did on the stories she told.
This was a quick read, of stories within a story. I have never read The Arabian Nights, though have read the great Sesame Street classic, [b:Scheherryzade and the Arabian Nights with Book|1253140|Scheherryzade and the Arabian Nights with Book|Constance Allen|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nocover-60x80.jpg|1241910]. The story is not quite so lighthearted without Grover.
Cameron Dokey has a great way of retelling a classic story in an abridged way that will appeal to younger readers. I would have loved to have this fairytale series when I was a middle-grade reader. Even as an adult, I really do love a happy ending!!

We've all heard the classic tale of Shahrazad; well now we get to hear it from her point of view. The famous storyteller tells her life's story from the beginning to the ever popular "happily ever after" ending. Dokey does a fantastic job of making this old classic come alive again. A fantastic read.
