I don’t know how to describe this in any other way but quiet. It’s one of those books you sit down with and get lost in the pages of these characters lives and hope and cheer them on.

red flags (spoilers)

I started off really enjoying this book.. but it lost me at the end. The male character is a huge red flag… beyond the typical “alpha” male character I enjoy reading about. SPOILERS BELOW.

He can’t control his temper and doesn’t have the emotional capacity to love anyone. That’s the big problem in this book. He doesn’t trust himself around people. He seriously drove into a brick wall and got his significant other killed because he wanted her to stop talking? Like WHAT? The male character tells the heroine he’ll never love her and is incapable of that emotion. So she leaves. We don’t get to read about her making this decision to show back up at the cabin. The ending was so rushed. The heroine basically tells the male character that she accepts he won’t ever love her and she has never known love anyways (because of past experiences with her mom & ex) so it’s all fine… The male character just comes off as a sociopath toward the end. He was a huge red flag. I gave it two stars because I did like the beginning and middle part of the story.

the first half was amazing, i love isolation, survival, deep in the woods cabin vibes. the second half lost me. edit; i lowered my star rating a week later because i can’t remark a single thing about this book.

I was quite enjoying the first half when the MMC was a grumpy mountain man. But the second half
surprise he's a billionaire
twist was just a bit too convenient and the emotional stakes were a little off.

I didn't hate it but didn't like it enough to continue. I was getting some TSTL vibes from the FMC and the MMC was gruff and grumpy but not in a way that was doing anything special for me.
