This was such an unusual book. Honestly, it is a paranormal romance that happens to be set in 19th century London. I am shocked that they didn't market it that way, because I think a lot of people would really like that. As it is now, those readers sort of have to accidentally fall into this book.

I loved it. And the friends-to-enemies-to-lovers thing doesn't usually jibe with me. But this one worked so well... Mallory played it perfectly. That enemy action really only works if you can sense the roiling, conflicted, tortured emotions below the surface.

And boy, can you.

This book is not just paranormal historical romance... it is also a mystery. And quite a suspenseful one (my nerves were jangling!). I don't want to say much in my review, because I don't want to hint at any of the twists and turns. So all I will say is that I am becoming a big big fan of Mallory. I find her books to be refreshing, energetic reads with strong characterization and fabulous banter. I will certainly be picking up more from her soon.

This one is a 3 for me. I really enjoyed the entire story, the build up, the suspense, the "whodunnit" were all great and I was sucked in! I was specifically looking for a ghost romance and this hit the spit for me. ...but the ending was so abrupt that it was kind of just a major letdown? It's like the author had a page limit and hit that limit so she just threw all "resolution" into one quick chapter at the end. I really wanted a more fleshed out ending after everything that led up to it.

This is my first Mallory book and all I can say is AMAZING. Its been a long time since I read a book that had me totally captured in TWO PAGES (no lie). I was immediantely in love with the characters and foudn their angery banter interesting because it kept me wondering what exactly had happened between them and that even now they can't deny that strong old feelings are still there but not to each other. As the two spend a constant amount of time...however, forced in a way... you learn more little by little as things about their past and present are revealed so beautifully. One thing that always marks a great story is great character development because I find that good character development builds a great story just as this book creates. I loved the characters of Abby and Valeraine because they were unique to me and both we're on their own interesting and then together even better. Their story is unique as well. I've only come upon the supernatural aspect like this books possesses once but this was so much more amazingly told and grew more so with each page turned. It was hard to put it down for want of finding out what happened next!!! AMAZING BOOK! I can't wait to read more Mallory.

When I started to read For The Earl's Pleasure, I expected it to be more like the previous book that I had read....boy was I wrong, I definitely was in for a surprise. It starts out with Valerian and Abigail getting into quite a few intense verbal sparring matches, that I definitely found amusing. But then one eveing Valerian gets attacks and starts to appear to Abigail as a ghost. So at first I was a bit confused, because I honestly didn't expect any paranormal aspect to this book. But I found it to be a exciting element that was added to the book. I really liked seeing these two overcome their differences and finally be honest with each other. I really liked the dangerous element that was added to it, and I just loved how this is was a paranormal Historical Romance....doesn't happen very often, in fact its rare, and I thought Mallory did very well it putting it together in a way that draws the reader in completely and I found myself completely enthralled by the story, the characters, the suspenseful plot, and the sizzling chemistry that just about explodes. I will admit though I had a hard time getting into it with the first chapter or two, but I am surely relieved I stuck with it, because I would have missed out on a fabulously written story. So if you want a sizzling romance that will continually delight and surprise you, then this one is for you!!! You won't regret it!! :)

I enjoyed this overall, but I feel like it was both longer than it needed to be and oddly incomplete. It needed better editing imo (blaming that on Avon, not the author). I never liked the "hero" much and I actually didn't love them ending up together, but I was very invested in the heroine and the mystery/gothic plotline.

Interesting premise for a book with good chemistry and backstory between the leads as well as some genuinely suspenseful moments. I do wish the ending had been longer.

So I started reading this and I... really wasn't into the romance dynamic, so I decided to peruse a little bit the reviews on Goodreads before I decided to DNF it, and yikes.
