I read this because I was interested in the moral dilemma faced by the central couple, one of whom is running for office as a Republican convert while the other is a staunch liberal. It mostly delivers on that premise while also bringing in the toll the campaign takes on the candidate's journalist sister and, indirectly, her bisexual lover. However, the writing was a little clunky at times. The ending also felt rushed and unsatisfying, with a turning point that felt implausible in its specifics.
