was it entertaining?
this was so silly. that's not a bad thing, just a statement of fact. if you'd asked me how i felt about omegaverse regency romance before reading this, i probably would have rolled my eyes and walked away but this works. it just does. i never considered that "omega rights" would be a great parallel for the sociopolitical concerns of early regency era europe but consider me converted. this was also really well researched so even the liberties taken (shakespearia?) make as much sense as thing could in this world. this honestly gives me classic sister lit (think pride & prejudice or sense & sensibility) but all the sisters are a little bit deranged and extremely likely to shoot you.

the FMC is very much a collection of tropes and i was a little annoyed with her -- but i didn't hate her. the entire book is predictable from the moment she first dreams up her harebrained scheme to the end when they but it works. the MMC is, again, entirely predictable, a little bit feral, and extremely obtuse as men are in these things but i didn't hate it.

there's just something extremely comforting about a predictable historical fantasy with an ending you saw coming a mile away. and i didn't hate the epilogue so congratulations Flora, you win. also, apparently every alpha and omega in this book is inherently bi/pansexual so i'm rocking with it. 5/5

was it enjoyable?
...yes. and no. it took me a minute to get into this but once i did, it went by at a respectable clip. HOWEVER, it was all over the place. i felt like i was trying to experience life through the lust addled brains of the FMC and MMC and their mood swings gave me mental whiplash. one minute it's all business, the next it's "is this bitch looking at my man," then it's "oh but he's not my man and i have GOALS," then back to business -- all on one page. i had to put this book down several times to let my brain catch up to what i just read. BUT, it was also a solid page-turner so i can't say i didn't have fun on the ride. 2.5/5

was it well-written?
not really. i kept getting caught up on punctuation errors and missing words that interrupted the flow of a sentence. i'm assuming this was self-published because it was on kindle unlimited but that's no excuse. independent books deserve a copy editor too. 2/5

overall, it was cute. but it gave me a headache. 3.2/5 stars

What a cute and sweet story

Funny too! This had all of the fun hallmarks of a regency romance but in an omegaverse setting. A willful, stubborn heroine; a dark and bloody hero; a ridiculous plan; misunderstandings galore. All of it made for a good story and a sweet read.

What a phenomenal first book from Flora Quincy! I’ve gone through periods of obsession with reading regency books and omegaverse books, but I never expected to have the joy of reading the two combined! But even beyond that, our alpha, Duke Orley, had delicious dominate vibes that had me shivering with jealousy, wishing I could jump into Viola’s role! Viola is a bratty and bold feminist, as are her family members, and a staunch defender of the rights of omegas and I loved her! The heat factor between these two built so intensely and had me sweating throughout! I’m so ready for the future books in this series.

Loved the premise. This may be a it’s not you it’s me because he calls her Puss and that just kicked me right out of the story every time.

Stunning political intrigue, with a romantic twist!

This is the first book I’ve read of Ms. Quincy but I am so impressed! Her world building was stunning. l
The relationships that blooms between not only the main male and female characters but between the side characters really made the story that much better. I loved Violas feisty brat personality paired with the domineering Duke Orley, when the burn finally catches with them it is an inferno. Great story and I cannot wait for the continuation of the Hartwell sisters stories next!!

I was, in no way, expecting to love this book as much as I did! I am not a fan of most Omegaverse books I've read, but I do love a good historical romance and I loved the idea of a more equal Omegaverse story...

...oh, I am so glad I have this story a chance! I absolutely loved it. I was so nervous to read it, but I just fell in love with Viola and Syon! I appreciated their respect an a appreciation for eachother all while battling their own thoughts and demons. I absolutely loved this book! I cannot wait for the next!

Omega's Gambit was just meh for me, and a lot of that is personal. I love, love, love the idea of regency OV. But Omega's Gambit is clearly based on Twelfth Night, and that's one of my least fave Shakespeare comedies. I've never been a fan of the "woman disguised as man" plot. I avoid this plot line, popular though it is, when I'm reading romance, and that's the heart of this book. Add to it the "falling in love and then switching to the sibling" element from Twelfth Night, and I struggled with Omega's Gambit.

It also took too long to move forward. I felt like there was a lot of Viola and Syon circling around each other for just pages and pages. I would have enjoyed physical interaction far earlier than it happened. Honestly, I ended up skimming a fair portion in the middle.

So, what did I like? I loved the world Quincy has created. I loved the idea of fighting for omega rights through laws and the work Viola was doing to get those laws passed. I love the balance and focus on female omegas. I love the ideas of classic histrom being played out in the OV. I saw Syon as a Darcy-like character (as well as having the imperiousness of Shakespeare's Duke Orsino), and I loved the fiery strength of Viola (one of the best things taken from her namesake character). I think Quincy is a strong writer. She gets the Regency world, and that's a true asset.

So would I read Quincy again? Definitely. I look forward to the next book in the series to see if it works better for me when I move away from a plot that's just a struggle for me personally to read.
