This is a super cute early chapter book series about a Korean-American girl navigating a new life in a new state. With details about her Korean heritage and meat to the story as Mindy not only navigates a new school but life without her mom, this is a winning series perfect for fans of the Anna Banana books or Jasmine Toguchi.

I enjoyed reading this shortly before the Lunar New Year began. It's a sweet, simple story that educates kids about Korean traditions while also having a compelling plot and character arc. I was very impressed with this, and also thought that the Korean game described in the book seemed like fun. Yesterday, I got to play it with some kids at the library while assisting with a Lunar New Year program, and it was so fun! The kids loved it, and I sent two of the girls home with copies of a program display title, [b:Korean Celebrations: Festivals, Holidays, & Traditions|43347634|Korean Celebrations Festivals, Holidays, & Traditions|Tina Cho|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1554856899l/43347634._SX50_.jpg|67314676], so that they could make the game at home.

MINDY IN HER HANBOK IS THE CUTEST THING EVER I AM SCREAMING! This was even better than the first book. Now I'm craving very specific Korean food late at night. Thanks. These books make me so happy I love them.

Mindy is my new book bff! I love all of her adventures and can’t wait to read more ☺️ This was such a cute story that teaches readers about Lunar New Year and the Korean traditions that Mindy and her father celebrate. The illustrations were also very cute and bring joy with each chapter 💕 Happy Lunar New Year!

Seriously all the warm heart fuzzies. I love how much Mindy loves puppies. And the nice touches about Korean traditions for the Lunar New Year. <3

Mindy Kim has my whole heart! This is the second book of the Mindy Kim series and this is just as charming and wholesome.

- Follows Mindy during Lunar New Year - the first year without her mother. When Mindy, her best friend Sally, and her father go to the Lunar New Year parade, they bump into her Appa's coworker -- and they end up spending Lunar New Year together!
- This story is about how Mindy shares that part of her life with the people she cares about. It's simple, but I also liked how the story examines what it's like to not see parts of yourself in something that is meant for you, and why representation and inclusion are so important.
- Gah, this book is just so charming and has me all *pleading emoji*. I just loved how simple and sweet the story is, which is perfect for young readers, especially young Korean readers!
- The little sparks between Mindy's father and his co-worker were adorable -- and even more so how shy Appa was? We love a soft Asian dad!
- Once again, the illustrations are so adorable. I loved seeing Mindy in her little hanbok. She was ADORABLE.
