Thank you to Penguin Random House for providing an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I am not sure how to review this book. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either.

The things that drew me in were the haunted school, the dark academia setting, and the promise of a murder mystery. The book did deliver on those points and that is the reason I gave it 3 stars.

The book is written from 2 POVs, the POV of Alice and Lottie, two roommates. At first, they hate each other because of the big difference in personalities and interests. After some rather scary events, they grow closer and find they like the differences in each other after all. If you are into the enemies to friends to lovers trope as well as the slow burn romance trope, you are gonna like this relationship!

I struggled to stay focused while reading and it took me days to finish this book because I lost focus so many times. Even with a well-executed plot, I didn’t feel drawn in the way I was expecting.

I did love how the story was set at a haunted school and I enjoyed the Jekyll and Hyde retelling. It is a perfect book to read during this time of year and I recommend it even though I only gave it 3 stars.
