I loved the suspense. It had me rushing through the chapters, just trying to keep up with all that was happening. There wasn't a lull in this book, so by the time I read the last sentence, I was satisfied.

Meh.

Enjoyed this very much. While listening, sometimes the characters would get a mixed up since there were several that weren't main but would come around at different times. I didn't care for the reader of this book, but the content was great.

I enjoyed Unger's writing style. I found her characters to be well developed and I liked how each chapter was from a different perspective (but without seeming disjointed). Unger's use of the supernatural tied in well to the plot - I wasn't expecting it to have as many connections as it did. And while I was totally surprised by the resolution, I found that the chapters afterwards were kind of disappointing. I had so many questions - specifically tied to the surprise resolution - and I wasn't satisfied that any were answered. That being said, I would definitely read another of Unger's books in the future.

So good.

I really wanted to love this book, I really did. It had great promise. HOWEVER, I felt like it was all over the place, and went far into different character stories (that I didn't particularly care about) and it didn't really amount to anything, I'm looking at you, Merri and Wolf.

I would have liked to know more about the 3 Sisters and Faith, but I feel like we just didn't get enough time with them. I also felt like we were led astray the entire novel to believe that "Penny" was Abbey, and at the last minute, NOPE, it's Eliza. That seemed like it was done for pure shock factor. What happened to Abbey? Why did Abel have two Dreamers at once, and dispose of the newest one? SO MANY QUESTIONS.

This book had many more lighthearted moments than I expected and that was nice to balance out the heavy material of being one who can see and hear spirits, burdened with the task of figuring out what they want so they can pass on. I really liked the character of Finley as she was troubled, yes, but not without warmth and compassion. I thought this book would be one I would read and pass on, but I think I might keep it for my personal collection in hopes that there will be more books starring Finley.

I really enjoyed this book.

I do think this book was probably a bit too long and was quite slow moving in parts. I also found the twists at the end to be predictable and yet at the same time one in particular did not feel completely well plotted and felt a little tacked on.

Having said that, I loved the small town setting, I really enjoyed the psychic parts of the plot and I really enjoyed Finley as the main character. I also really enjoyed the commentary on Finley's tattoos being a way for her to take back control over body.

A really enjoyable book that I would recommend if it sounds like something you would enjoy.

I have a bad habit of buying kindle books on sale and never reading them which I’m trying to correct. I almost changed my mind about starting with this one when I realized the author has other books set in this town. For anyone else wondering; this stands up on its own just fine. In fact it feels like the beginning of a series.

A spooky old small town in the Northeast where creepy things have been happening for years makes for great fall reading. I liked the setting and the main character quite a bit. If anything, I wish we had seen more interaction between Finley and the detective that I assume she’ll be partnered with if this continues. They only meet up maybe two times to work on the case before the main conflict brings the novel to its conclusion. I suppose this choice makes sense to set up the protagonist as the real deal, but I feel like there could have been more of a working relationship established with these two. The idea of a hardened, experienced former cop turned private investigator who works with a young, tattooed college student with psychic abilities seems ripe for some great characterization. I hope this series continues, I think this would be a fun dynamic.

The paranormal parts are well done and grounded in a way that makes them believable. I would definitely read more from this author.
