The sins of the white man do not exist according to this author. It was a difficult read, I enjoyed the narrative but the idea that the white man is so complacent in this injustice just did not sit right. Further, the white man savior complex is madness.

This book was absolutely beautiful. The poetic flow of the narrative provided a much deeper connection with the book than I had anticipated. Admittedly, the lack of dialogue markers made it confusing at times; however, I felt that this didn't significantly impede the value of the novel.

An uplifting story that gives you a snapshot of the history of South Africa. Set in the late 40s. I suspect it tells a little bit of a rosy story of the motivations of some white people of good intention, while the reality was more stark. Still, well written and the audiobook e partly narrated by Michael York.

I can't believe I didn't want to read this book! It was amazing. Paton's writing style is very unique and the storyline = incredible. I love how the men came together and how well I felt their feelings of loss, grief, and shame. Excellent!! I wish I'd read it earlier!!!
