not as blatantly racist as i expected, but neutral and glorifying of white people doing the bare minimum. the fact that this book is criticized by Black people should be enough to choose a different book for us to read, especially for a college level class.

A very slow paced book, which some confusing dialogue. Overall it was quite thought provoking as it shows the struggles of a broken family, a broken country due to Apartheid in South Africa. A great story of redemption and reconciliation, while also criticizing the current government and inspiring hope for change in South Africa.
This book had much wisdom and beautiful language. I jotted down many quotes to ponder on faith, the treatment and service to other humans, on community, on forgiveness and repentance.
I did find myself getting lost in some of it though, possibly a reread and reading it at a slower pace would be useful. Worth a reread someday.

This book was alright for being about choices and how they affect you, but personally I wouldn't read it for fun. It was quite a quick read for me, and I found the dialogue hard to follow. I would assume it would good for high school and older, but it would have to be someone about older books. It did have good sentence structure and varying lengths, but had a lot of repeat words.

This was a pretty good book. A little slow at some points, but very moving. One part made me sob, and I mean S-O-B. I also really liked the way it was written.
