She is broke,

She is alcoholic and...above all..
She is deaf !!

Amelia Winn is a good nurse, and has all the above adjectives attached to her name. She leads a lonely life. Her only companion is her dog-'Stitch'. She loves Kayaking and during one of her day at Kayaking, she stumbles upon a dead body. Dead body of someone she knows, some who thought her of as a good friend. After this her life is not same anymore.

This is my second book by [a:Heather Gudenkauf|2875124|Heather Gudenkauf|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1531697584p2/2875124.jpg] and I love her style of writing, she wastes no time in getting to the crux of the plot and that is what all the Crime Fiction/Mystery readers loves the most. No unnecessary drama and talk of climates or social issues. She writes pure mystery. ( Like [a:Agatha Christie|123715|Agatha Christie|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1589991473p2/123715.jpg]).

I must admit, like her previous novel, i could narrow down on the suspect, but, still loved the way story telling. [a:Heather Gudenkauf|2875124|Heather Gudenkauf|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1531697584p2/2875124.jpg] is becoming my favorite writer.

Okay - so put this book next on your list. Seriously! I finished it in a little over 3 hours - it was AMAZING!! I've never read a book before which had a deaf lead character. It was a page-turning thriller that had unexpected twists. I found myself jumpy & scared while trying to imagine life this way. What a great read!!

“When a tragic accident leaves nurse Amelia Winn deaf, she spirals into a depression that ultimately causes her to lose everything that matters—her job, her husband, David, and her stepdaughter, Nora. Now, two years later and with the help of her hearing dog, Stitch, she is finally getting back on her feet. But when she discovers the body of a fellow nurse in the dense bush by the river, deep in the woods near her cabin, she is plunged into a disturbing mystery that could shatter the carefully reconstructed pieces of her life all over again.
As clues begin to surface, Amelia finds herself swept into an investigation that hits all too close to home. But how much is she willing to risk in order to uncover the truth and bring a killer to justice?”

Excellent thriller/mystery with tense interactions and twisty reveals. The suspense added by having a deaf MC was a great element.

the story overall was interesting and different than anything i’ve read but the way it was written was kind of cringey at times
