I tried to stretch the time it would take for me to read it because of its length but it was just too short.

Anyway, that last story though!

Overall a good read. I wish other locally produced books with the same caliber as Trese to surface :)

I enjoyed the stories. Too short for my liking but they're still good. The 4th story caught me off guard with the revelation. I'm excited to dive into this world more.

idk why it took me so long to finally start reading this.

what a great way to start a series about philippine mythos. i especially love the kambal as they balance out alexandra trese's stoic personality.

there's nothing I love more than a crime story with urban-fantasy elements based on Philippine myths <3

I ran across Trese while reading [b:Alternative Alamat: Stories Inspired by Philippine Mythology|13133725|Alternative Alamat Stories Inspired by Philippine Mythology|Paolo Chikiamco|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1409189707s/13133725.jpg|18310206], which showcased one of Budjette Tan's short story, "The Last Full Show". Trese as a character was an interesting, spunky female superhero-type detective dealing with the paranormal. I wanted to read more of her.

This volume contains four "cases", all solved by the mysterious Trese, the female Filipino version of the Winchester brothers. Coincidentally, Trese's bodyguards are twins (aptly named Kambal). Her connections and sources include a variety of supernatural beings such as an aswang and a tikbalang.

How badass is she?

My favorite of all the cases is "The Tragic Case of Dr. Burgos", which was tied cleanly from start to finish. Heartbreaking and alluding to The Police's "I Burn For You". Great story.

"Our Secret Constellation" also played off on an already beloved Filipino superhero. That was a surprise.
