I listened to this book in my car during my long commute to and from work. It took a little over a month to finish, and after a slow start, I was engrossed in the characters and their story.
The parts where Hugo wrote about historical events were overly detailed and almost excruciatingly boring for me. Maybe it was because I was listening to the book instead of reading it. But I think the real reason is because I wanted to get back to the story and the characters to find out what happened to them. I found myself skipping through these parts and don't feel as if I lost anything.
In any case, I really loved the book and am so glad I finally introduced myself to this classic.
