Another action packed book with banter for days. I enjoyed this book but there were definitely moments that took me out of it mainly the food shaming and weight comments.

I loved Sloane’s dream of opening a body positive, safe space for young girls. I can also 100% relate to all the experiences and feeling she had growing up as a fat person but the constant comments about the “unhealthy” food ruined those great moments for me. The only time food was mentioned in this book it was immediately categorized as “healthy” or “unhealthy” not only can that be triggering for people with eating disorders it’s just unnecessary. It’s a 300 page mafia romance let’s spend that word count on something else.

Declan’s pro-life hypocrisy was also a big side-eye. I appreciate that Sloane immediately calls him out on it but when you literally spend the book beheading people for doing the same job you do- criminally offensive side eye.

The banter in this one was pretty good. Sloan was a smart ass but actually showed the wit to back it up; we aren’t just told that she’s sassy, we get to see plenty of it, and it’s quality writing.

After reading the first two in this series and the synopsis of the next book, I’m expecting every book to include kidnapping and lots of spanking. This one had too much “yes, sir” from Sloan, who in the audiobook just sounded sarcastic anyway.

TW/CW: brief mentions of
past rape, child abuse by fat shaming, self harm, suicidal thoughts, and death of parent by cancer.

The banter between Sloane and Declan is so goddamn funny. And of course the spice is everything. I loved the evolution of their story, and how they were each able to heal themselves and each other. Sloane is one of my alllllll time fav FMCs.

If I rate this book based on how good it actually is, I'd give it a generous 2; however if I rate it based on how much fun I had while reading this it'd be a solid 5 stars so I'm settling somewhere in the middle with a 3.

This book is ridiculous in the best possible way! It's out there and outrageous and if I hear of someone going through anything even remotely close to this I'd drag them to a therapist, but in the confines of this book it works somehow.

Carnal Urges (the title is ridiculous tbh) is about a girl Sloane and her kidnapper of all things, who she falls in love with.
Sounds familiar? Yeah it's basically Stockholm Syndrome: The Book.
The thing about this book that made it work though is how annoyingly cheerful the girl is, especially given her circumstances! I've never seen (or read about) anyone who's so unbothered by being kidnapped by a bunch of mafia dudes! Hell she even ends up having them wrapped around her little finger after on interaction!

Overall this is absolutely ridiculous but the funny kind not the I wanna claw my eyeballs out kind and just for that, if you're looking for a good laugh I highly recommend this, hell I might even read the rest of this series at some point.
