This book was adorable! I was first drawn into this book by a few stellar reviews and the settings. The settings are truly top notch. We get the mountains, the beach, and the city. Even filthy and sleeping in tents you couldn’t help but put yourself into this story. I am not a sibling’s ex person. I think so far I only have one exception to that rule. It just feels icky. And I’m so close to my own sibling that the whole thing seems really far fetched. I just had to suspend some belief here because after a rocky start, you could tell how down bad Miller was for Kit and clearly had been for some time. I’m going to give it a pass since she was 17 when they originally met a decade ago, but to his credit, he did remove himself completely from her orbit back then. I loved how much Miller looked out for Kit on the climb. I loved how much they learned about each other and themselves on the climb. I loved her meddling father. Her relationship with her sister was close but strange in so many ways. Same with her mom. I loved the beach portion of this book so much that it made me want to take a trip when I literally just got back from one. The whole conflict with her sister just stressed me out. I think I spent a lot of this book waiting for the other shoe to drop. I was glad the conflict wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, but it also felt anticlimactic for the amount of stress I felt for the entire book. Overall, this book was pretty stressful for me lol BUT it was also a lot of fun. There are some heavier topics, but it’s not done in a completely depressing way. The next book seems even more taboo trope wise but it also sounds like it’s gonna be good!

Kit was just too self sacrificing for me.

Lovely setting. Amazing descriptions of climbing Kili. It kind of made me think about doing it one day myself.

Great story. The fact they’re all really rich wasn’t too off putting or unbelievable. Everything just felt very realistic and the dialogue was great.

Think Elizabeth is gonna be a new fave author.

Cried twice.

There were at least two mentions of human trafficking in this book and both times it was part of a joke which I found a little odd and definitely unnecessary. There was also a moment where it was assumed that a white character would be better at providing medical treatment to the people of Tanzania than Tanzania’s healthcare system, which felt ignorant and unnecessary. I won’t be reading any of Elizabeth O’Roark’s future books unless she takes accountability and loses the bits of racism and white savior tone.

⭐️⭐️.5/5

4.65 stars I need Elizabeth o'roark to write the man of my life cause I'm really tired of reading about those perfect types of specimen like Miller West, while stuck out here in real life with the depressing knowledge that men suck balls.
This is the type of book you finish reading and you’re like “oh man how I love love
