I was referred to this book by a teacher that I mentor in my school district, and I was glad he did!
For people who spend a lot of time reading or watching what the media offers, this is a very interesting read. Once really internalized, it was easier to see the mechanization behind the messages we take in through articles, websites, commercials, tv shows and movies, interviews... anything really.
As an English who has taught basic argumentation strategies for a decade, some of the information was familiar, but Almossawi even includes some techniques I'd never heard of, but Googled to find he didn't make up. The examples are fun, although some mildly echo actual events the current crop of high school students wouldn't know about or remember.
When I read it a few months ago, the entire book was available online for free, but it is also published in hardcover.

The most common bad arguments with cute illustrations, I've been gobsmacked by Appeal to Ignorance so many times that I feel I need a t-shirt with this cartoon. "Space aliens built the pyramids!" not again!!!
Sadly the people who most need this book probably don't read unless it's sports or celebrity trash.

This book wasn't what I hoped or thought it would be. It does the basic job well enough -- each fallacy is explained, with examples -- but I already knew that stuff. I guess I was hoping for a sort of fallacy graphic novel, and this isn't it; the illustrations are more likely slightly random one-panel cartoons than anything else, and they definitely aren't all that memorable.
So, basically, this is a nice introduction to fallacies, but it's probably not worth reading if you already know the definitions of them.

For someone who has never studied the methods of constructing good arguments in any kind of depth, this book was nicely explanatory. It presented simple, clear explanations of the most common problems and the accompanying drawings were beautiful.
