What a read. 

Never have I read something so necessary and important. All the data Criado Pérez has and hasn't been able to collect is shocking to say the least. With such an ease to explain, she takes your hand and walks you through the data-empty spaces society has deemed 'not popular enough' to fill. Intelligently, she asks why.

Why are we not collecting data?
Why are the needs of half the world's population deemed 'not common enough' to satisfy?
Why are we not acting when we already have the evidence and data to back up a solution?

From medical diagnosis, to appliances' designs; from society's infrastructure, to political systems; Criado Pérez draws a very clear (almost transparent) diagram on how women and female bodies are subject to indirect and direct discrimination in every corner of our lives. She urges for diversity, to fill so many data gaps that could make life better for EVERYONE. I could almost hear her screams of outrage... or maybe they were my own. 

Please. Everyone. Read this book. It might be one of the most important pieces of non-fiction to grace my shelves.

This book made me realize a lot of what I didn’t like in the world was because it was made with men only in mind. In all areas of transportation, healthcare, product design, politics, and even disaster relief efforts. My one critique is that there is not a lot of trans-inclusive language but this book is about the lack of data on AFAB bodies and cis women. 

I had the latest edition that included an epilogue about the Covid pandemic which I appreciated because some lines were harrowing to read from a book published in 2019. Overall, an eye-opening read. I want to read more feminist literature like this

I’d highly recommend audiobook for this. I think it would have been harder to enjoy as text because it is a bit dense, very statistic heavy, and quite frankly overwhelming. That being said, this was important & eye opening! Some things I knew, many things I learned. This world was not designed for us!

This book definitely changed the way I view the world, but it does have problems. Choosing to view the world as binary completely erases intersex, trans, and nongendered experiences which are even MORE invisible than the book describes. It also needlessly excludes men from many issues raised which would strengthen a lot of her claims (as frustrating as that is). 

I was quite surprised to realize this was written in 2019. It felt behind on many social issues and failed to include the full context behind the little solutions offered. Each chapter was just a reiteration of the previous, which does drive home the frustration factor of losing this data, but left me feeling annoyed and wishing to "get to a point"

I would still recommend this book, especially since it made me confront a lot of unconscious bias I had in myself; however, lots of discussion and further resources would be almost required
