This reads basically like the aftermath of a DnD campaign. It's cute and funny. Pretty cozy, too. However, the miscommunication trope was a little bit much for me.

I stand by my original description of this book when I started it: a chaotic DnD group after the quest, mixed with BBC Merlin, and it's a romcom. And it was FANTASTIC. I really enjoyed this as a fun fantasy read! I usually am not a fan of miscommunication and friends-to-lovers but it was done so well!?! I wish there was more character development and that we got to see things progress a bit more between Matt and Arek - but overall it's just such a fun read!

“I didn’t look behind me to check that everyone followed, because I was certain they would. I could feel them right there, protecting me as they had for the past nine months. We might be dressed like chess pieces, but we were still that ragtag group of assholes who had taken on the darkest and vilest regime in five lifetimes and lived to tell the tale.”

If a DnD campaign, cozy fantasy and merthur came together and wrote a book, it would be So This Is Ever After.
As always, FT Lukens has written a hilarious, gay, cozy romcom perfect for lovers of fantasy books! Was it perfect? Not exactly, the lack of communication and obliviousness of Arek and Matt made me want to repeatedly walk headfirst into a wall, BUT it was entertaining as hell and aggressively sweet! I can see this becoming a new staple of the cozy fantasy sub genre!
