After reading a few other books on this topic, I came to realize just how well-written this one was. It was naturally a dry read in some areas, but the argument is endlessly fascinating as a whole.

Fantastic, full of depth & insight, even at points when i disagreed with him he made his point very clearly & respectfully. Very historically & politically informed. Not just some book of apologism for Islam because it's very clear how his perspective is informed from very real experiences & data, it's not a matter of bias. He acknowledges divergent opinions and engages with them clearly & factually.

First off, I really enjoyed seeing a book that laid the US with it's fair share of the blame for current events with the Middle East over the last several years happened to be written by an ex-employee of the CIA. I must admit I've never read anything by Mr. Fuller before, and honestly know very little about him, I nonetheless must say I think we could use more of him in our government. He was refreshingly moderate in his views regarding Islam and any other religion he happened to mention in his book, and he was just as fair assessing the causes of Al'Quida and similar reactionary Islamic-terrorist groups. I think one of the best points he made in the book was regarding the right to defend one's country from invading foreign powers. Here in the US we're getting pissy because illegal immigrants are coming in taking our jobs, while we at the same time are in the Middle East taking they're country. Of course they're bombing us, what people wouldn't strike back when another country's forced it's way in, demanding you to conform to their way of life.

On the flip side there is one point on which me and Fuller disagree. Although I admit that wars have many causes, I personally think Fuller is downplaying the relevancy religion has in most conflicts. He gives religion very little of the blame and I find this a little unfair. Religion has earned it's place as an important cause of billions of pointless deaths. That being said his view does add a nice perspective. By nearly removing religion from the picture we see that many "ideological" conflicts would have most likely happened with or without differing gods or god in the equation, and that on the whole of history no religious creed is more prone to violence then any other.

I read in English but this review is written in Bahasa Indonesia

Melihat buku ini seringkali membuatku ingin membaca. Namun, baru belakangan aku sempat.
