Ever since I was a little kid, I've adored reading The Red Tree. I can only guess that it may be because I look similar to the young girl within the book; however, I also resonated with the book's story immensely. I know my mum dislikes the story (she thinks the ending is lazy and pointless), but I'll always love it, no matter what. I still have the same book since I was 4-5, maybe one day I'll get it autographed.
I find Shaun Tan's children's literature very mature for its target audience and difficult to process (because of super busy artwork and heavy themes), especially the first time through. So I had to read this one twice. And it was quite good.
Jeune rousse mélancolique, perdue dans ce monde absurde, submergée par les malheurs du quotidiens, les occasions ratées et soudain l'espoir qui renait. C'était court mais touchant, poétique, et joliment illustré.
Wonderful pictures, technically good message, uber sappy presentation that I cannot get behind. Maybe I was just in a cynical mood when I read it?

We do love a bit of [a:Shaun Tan|38954|Shaun Tan|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1241221057p2/38954.jpg] and when we come across one of his books in a charity shop it is a special day.
This children's book tackles mental health, resilience, and coming out the other side. All with stunning illustrations which perfectly capture the tone of the minimalist text.
This was a real joy to read and will join [b:Tales from Outer Suburbia|6353446|Tales from Outer Suburbia|Shaun Tan|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1500220943l/6353446._SX50_.jpg|3029984], [b:The Singing Bones|31670261|The Singing Bones|Shaun Tan|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1472030851l/31670261._SX50_.jpg|45947099], and the others in our growing collections. 5 stars.
