4.5 stars. Book 3 of the Slab City Blues series was the meatiest--and best--yet. Alex is working at his bar while awaiting his suspension hearing, when a vampire asks for his help finding a murderer. He's able to get back onto temporary duty with the police department, with Janet (said vampire) in tow. Some pretty significant things happen to major characters, and this ended with a pretty wide opening for book 4.
