This was a wild ride. Based off what I knew from The Good Liar, I did not expect this to be as intense as it was. Leland and Franklin's story was surprising in the best way. There's spice, drama, angst, pining, it's got it all. I'm going to try not to spoil too much of the story, so it'll be a little vague. But if you haven't read The Good Liar I suggest reading that first!

Leland and Franky have a chance encounter at a work event and are quickly drawn to each other - first as friends, but then more. On the surface they are complete opposites - there's a 20 year age gap, they have completely different upbringings and lifestyles. But deep down they are so similar and it's what makes them work so well together. Leland is a precious broken boy trying to figure out who he is and how to live his life, and he finds a kindred spirit in Franky. Even though he's older, Franky is struggling with an identity crisis himself. Together they make each other braver, stronger, and truly understand the other.

Their relationship is deep and intense and we get every detail from the beginning to their happy ending. Their differences and realities create a lot of difficulties for them that they have to work through independently in order for them to succeed together. It's heartbreaking at times, but ultimately there is nothing that can keep them apart.

I really wanted Franky to get it together faster. He hurt Leland, and even Cole and Jasper, so much and I just wish wish he pulled his his head out of his ass sooner and got the help he obviously needed. The wasted time just hurts my heart. While we get a lot of his character development, we don't see as much of Leland's until the end. I would've loved to see more of his journey.

•end of spoilery stuff•

I will say I'm not the biggest fan of age gaps this big. It's 20 years, and at some point that just gets too stuck in my head. Franky really didn't act like it so that helped, but I think it would've been perfect if he was even 5 or so years younger - but that's just a personal preference.

I think I've heard there's one more in the series with a certain character - and I'm so excited for that. Leland and Franky's story was spicy and dramatic - a lot like Jasper and Cole's - and I really enjoyed it!

Read if you like:
• age gap
• hurt/comfort
• forbidden romance

This book definitely takes you on an emotional ride. Such a beautiful story. Franky and Leland's characters were so well developed. This book just leaves you feeling all the things and I can't wait to read the next one.

I received an arc and this review is my own.

This is my first book from C.P. Harris. She has been on my TBR for a long time, I just never pulled the trigger. MM is my favorite relationship dynamic, so when I saw the opportunity to read The Fishermen early I ran.

I would say read The Good Liar first because this book takes place during that one. There are time jumps, etc.

Leland and Franky's relationship was dynamic. One minute I am crying for them and then next I am all hot and bothered. This book was a rollercoaster and I was sad when it ended.

It is an age-gap romance, but those are the best kind.

Glad I pulled the trigger. I can't wait to read more books by C.P. Harris.

This is the first book I have read by this author. I was given the opportunity for an ARC for this book and the tropes really resonated with me.

This story is divided into 3 parts. Part 1 tells about the introduction, friendship and blossoming love.
Leland and Franky meet at a party. They are drawn to each other. When they meet again by chance, a close friendship begins.
Franky is married with 2 children. But he and his wife took a break because they both had to find themselves. Leland is also very sexually attracted to Franky. And Franky also to Leland. But he is straight and married. When they finally give in to each other, there are fireworks. Franky has sadistic traits and Leland likes it rough. They are a match made in heaven.
But all good things come to an end. Franky leaves Leland to care for his sick wife.

Part 2 tells the story of the friendship between Cole (Franky's son) and Leland. Franky kind of begged Leland to be Cole's friend.

Part 3 is about Franky's redemption to his sons and Leland.

To say that my heart has been broken many times while reading is an understatement. I really felt so sad for Leland, but also for Franky.
The spicyscenes were amazing accept the cumeating all the time. That was a bit of an ick for me.
This is a great book with lots of twist but not for the faint of heart.

Reviews are hard for me, especially if I adored the book, so this took me longer than I’d like to admit. (It also doesn’t fully explain my feelings because they’re mostly vibes and indescribable things.) Leland and Franky are my favorites, and their HEA is one of the hardest fought ones I’ve seen. For a significant amount of time in the second half of the book, I sort of didn’t even want them to end up together, because I was so angry on Leland’s behalf. But then Franky won me over just like he did Leland (okay maybe not JUST like..), and my heart was happy to see them finally happy together and fulfilled and able to enjoy their love. Also, can we just take a moment for the epilogue? So many feels throughout the whole story, all wrapped up perfectly in the epilogue. Catch & release, my friends, catch & release.
