GORGEOUS ARTWORK! I liked reading about Jonathan Kent, son of Clark and Lois Lane. The artwork really blew me away. The colors and detail! Wow!

I like Tom Taylor as a writer a lot, but I do think this book could have used a little more time to breathe in the relationship between Jon and Jay. Tho maybe it's because superhero relationships are always so quick and obvious when they're straight, I set the bar higher!

But superman trying to bring about structural change instead of fighting street crime is very good.

As a massive fan of Jon Kent since he was reintroduced back around the New 52, I hate to admit I have rather complicated feelings about the start of his solo series.

Full disclosure, I am 100% giving it 4/5 stars almost entirely because of the landmark significance of this being the introduction of a canonical primary earth bisexual Superman. Also, I do genuinely love his new tagline of “Truth, Justice, and a Better World.”

But apart from that… it’s kind of a middle of the road story… Might I even say boring… Some parts felt like blatant virtue signaling and other parts felt like they were building up to more only to have all the tension drained quickly and disappointingly.

This first volume isn’t terrible or anything, I just think there were a lot of missed opportunities to make a bigger splash with this new Superman. I’ve dived a bit into newer issues with Jon as Superman and it seems like they’re doing better with his character but yeah I can’t give this one 5 stars despite how much I would have loved to.
