A murder mystery-thriller in space. The plot is well constructed and full of interesting details imagining life there, but the story was impaired by recurring male-gazey comments by the narrator character about one of his younger crew. Ick? Otherwise enjoyable despite the narrator being kind of a dick.

Thanks for the free advance copy!

This was no The Martian. Interesting, but way more sciency and not written as well. Like The Martian, I had to skim and just keep reading even if I wasn't quite understanding, because I wouldn't and just needed to get through. It was intriguing in thinking about space exploration/business and ongoing politics in the future. It is set in 2072 - which I love since I'll be 100 years old then - and hopefully still able to grasp what's going on in the world and beyond.

We'll die high and live on with the gods.

I hate the Earth anyway, minus a few of its bacchanalian pleasures.

For Quarles, ignorance was the deadliest sin.

The latest scene in a show I'm tired of watching.

Pretty solid book, moves fast. It might have been nicer if it had embraced the mystery element more deeply. Instead it was revealed in a bit of a rush to further the plot.

A pretty good Science Fiction romp that is grounded in our reality. This book is not an escapist read because of that, so if you are looking for a space opera I'd suggest looking elsewhere.
However if you want a near future realistic take about the ramifications of humanity colonizing the moon for resources, both positive and negative, this is an excellent read.

One final note- I found this story plot , and not character driven. The characters seemed kind of one dimensional to me, but the plot moves along at a very fast pace.

A good standard thriller, with some twists and turns. And it's set on the moon. Is there really a war brewing between the Chinese and the Americans ON THE MOON? Who can you trust? NO ONE.

I personally kinda hate the "you can't trust people" theme in a story, but it was pretty much the driver of what was going on here. And the cover, with a space helmet with what looks like a bullet hole in it? Yes, that kinda sucked me in.

I thought the descriptions of life on the moon and the dangers inherent in that life were pretty well described in a hard-sf sort of way. Most of the characters were fairly generic. The pace was pretty good.

A perfectly cromulent thriller. 3 and a half stars.

I enjoyed this one! Always something happening so you didn’t get too bogged down with details and streams of information that get too complicated to remember, and the mystery of the whodunit being twisted enough to keep you guessing as to who did it was more than enough to keep me reading until the end.

I will say that I did have a theory as to who did it, and while it did end up being correct, there was enough to make me go “well…” as the chapters progressed. Very entertaining!

Realism

This book is great. It starts slow but is never boring. All the details seem very realistic. The climax of the book is impossible to put down.
