Nice read, had it figured out quite early in the novel, but still happily kept on reading.

More geopolitical (lunarpolitical?) politics than I expected, and less action than I would have wanted. Okay, but a little slow for me.

I'll admit I was drawn to this book by the cool cover and some "buzz" I'd heard about it from other reviewers. The idea of a murder on the moon sounded like a great mash-up of detective + sci-fi genres. I know it's been done before (ex. Outland) but I was hoping for something new.

Unfortunately I never connected with any of the characters, even the main protagonist who's trying to solve the "mystery". The supporting characters were too thin and not developed enough to really care about. I also skimmed past the techno-babble parts that reminded me too much of the worst parts of The Martian.

In the end I'd say it was an average sci-fi story and a below-average mystery.

This was okay, but just okay. It reminded me of the show For All Mankind in some parts, which I love, but ultimately felt like half a story.

Well, that was fun! Maybe I have a weird idea of fun. Anyway. I had a bad headache today (though thankfully not a migraine) and this was an excellent distraction! I've had it on my kindle for a few years; I read the first few chapters when I first got it, but I'm not sure why I never continued. The audio was on scribd, so I decided to try again! The narrator has a voice that's a cross between cheesy romance and dramatic "in a world..." movie trailer voiceover, and somehow it worked.

This starts out with some sabotage on the moon and quickly escalates. It's fast-paced and exciting with lots of dangerous stuff and real stakes. Aside from the main guy's weird relationship with the only female crew member (does he see her as a little sister to look out for? Does he have a thing for hey? I still don't know.), the characters were fun to read. Some of the politics and implications made me uncomfortable but I think it was purposefully done.

Useless review. Like I said, headache day. A quick and enjoyable read! Scifi thriller mystery...with a sprinkling of military scifi, some PTSD/flashbacks def, and global tensions after environmental collapse. Really, a bit of everything I was looking for right now.

Very promising premise but it was a bit boring and I can recall just a few interesting chapters. It supposed to be thrilling but I felt dissapointed, with little interest on the plot and annoyed with the neverending "have to keep my crew safe" from the main character. Also, the names, my goodness. Beside all that the science on the book was good.

I picked this up today expecting a popcorn book, a nice literary snack to while away a quiet holiday afternoon.

What I got was so much more, good hard science fiction with solid elements of a mystery and a thriller.

I’ve no idea yet whether Pedreira has written anything else but I’ll be checking right after filing this review.
