Honestly felt completely meandering and superfluous. It's still witty and funny, but spinning its wheels.

While the storyline in this Fables spin-off was easy to follow, it was not as exciting as some of the past storylines. Jack of Fables, who happens to be Jack Frost, Jack Be Nimble, and pretty much every Jack from every fable you can imagine, is split into two Jacks. One is busy saving a princess and monsters while the other seems to be turning into a large, scaly creature by way of gaining tons of weight, literally. I'm not too sure where this series is going. I would have liked to see another character get their own spin-off graphic novel series from the Fables universe over Jack.

Jack of the Fables hits new lows - in the first story he adds racism and species-ism to his list of crimes.

The story picks up considerably when we return to his son Jack Frost, and his quest to become a hero. Jack Frost is a likable character and I would much rather read about him than his feckless father.

Back down to original Jack, who has now added fat jokes to his repertoire, and continues to abuse the hospitable nature of his sidekick Gary. Even Babe has gotten fed up of him and goes off on his own adventures (yay for Babe the miniature blue ox - still the best part of the series). Jack then turns into a dragon and Gary finally turns on him. Ashe says, Jack will remain a dragon until he learns to truly love others more than he loves gold and himself. Jack's response "I'm doomed" - never is a truer word said in this series.

Aside from the first issue, this is largely a better volume than previous ones and that's mostly because it's more Jack Frost than Jack Horner. And Jack F isn't too bad (so far, although he shows a bit of a father-like quality at the end, so I'm wary). Also, Jack H
Spoilerturns into a dragon
, which is pretty satisfying. Other than that, the nightmare creatures reminded me a bit of the stupid, stupid, rat creatures.

I don't know anymore. The crossover event was fun, but the shift we're seeing in this volume makes for an interesting/tiring expectation for the remainder. Knowing there are only two more volumes in the series means I'll likely see it through, but when so little of value is happening...
